Barrie has a background in teaching, coaching and facilitation, and birth work. She holds a MA in Teaching from Seattle University and has been studying a variety of Jewish topics both in Chavruta, with her partner in Israel, through The Mussar Institute, and independently. She’s a lover of great Jewish stories and has presented at Limmud on the topic. She’s also a Certified Birthing From Within Mentor and has helped thousands of expectant families prepare for birth and new parenthood. She’s a retired birth doula and currently works with postpartum parents who had a difficult birth experience through her birth story healing work. Additionally, she works as a volunteer coach for At The Well, helping women create Rosh Chodesh circles in their communities across the US.
She serves on the board of her synagogue, Bet Alef in Seattle, WA and will be starting graduate school in the Fall in Jewish Studies. She is married and the mother of two teenage boys who keep her on her toes! She’s an avid knitter, bibliophile, and lover of Cuban dance. Originally from the NYC area and living in Seattle for the past 20 years, she’s passionate about creating Jewish community in the Pacific Northwest!
