Rabbi Ilana Schachter is a community builder, and in her rabbinate, she encourages multiple access points to Jewish engagement and the pursuit of a justice rooted in faith through Jewish texts, values, and rituals. She currently serves on the clergy team at Temple Sinai of Roslyn in Roslyn, NY. Prior to serving as a congregational rabbi, she worked as a campus rabbi at Penn Hillel and was the founding Director of Jewish Student Life Loyola Marymount University. She is also passionate about interfaith dialogue work, and has dedicated herself to interfaith collaboration and dialogue. From 2022-2024, Rabbi Schachter helped to lead Upholding Humanity, an interfaith coalition on Long Island that focused on Afghan and later Ukrainian refugee resettlement.

Rabbi Schachter is a life-long learner, and has been blessed to immerse in several fellowships and trainings since her ordination, including M2’s Senior Educator Cohort and Relational Engagement Circle, the AJWS Global Justice Fellowship, and the Clergy Leadership Incubator Rabbinic Fellowship. Most recently, she completed training in mental health counseling through the Lay Counselor Academy, and she is currently pursuing an Executive MA in Jewish Professional Studies through the Spertus Institute.

Rabbi Schachter lives in Roslyn with her husband, John, and their two children, Jacob and Aviva.
